Wake Forest University School of Divinity is a dynamic and intellectually stimulating graduate theological community. The Master of Arts in Religion program prepares students for professional leadership and social engagement informed by both a critical understanding of the role of religion in society and interdisciplinary skills for thinking theologically about social and cultural challenges facing our world today. By blending rigorous theological inquiry with interdisciplinary approaches, the program encourages students to critically examine the role of religion in shaping and responding to the social, cultural, and ethical dilemmas of our time. The program features distinguished faculty in divinity, religion, law, philosophy, public health, and more, providing students with a diverse, thought-provoking academic environment that nurtures faithful and transformative scholarship that advances justice, reconciliation, and compassion.
Finish in Less than One Year
The 36-hour MA in Religion is designed to be completed in as few as 10 months
- CDS 501 Social and Cultural Analysis (3 credits)
- Choose from one of the following (3 credits)
- MIN 511 Practical Theologies for Social Change
- THS 501 Christian Theologies in Context
- REL 700 Theory and Method in the Study of Religion
- Experiential Learning Design Lab (6 credits)
- General Electives (24 credits)
Through the Master of Arts in Religion degree, students will learn to:
- Generate theologically informed analysis of social, cultural, political, and ecological systems
- Engage in interdisciplinary reflection on the meaning and practice of religious traditions in a pluralistic world
- Participate in collaborative design that responds to global challenges and the needs of local communities

A key feature of the program is its “Theological Design Lab,” an innovative experiential learning space that uses design thinking and a collaborative process involving students, faculty, faith leaders, professionals, and community members. The lab focuses on addressing the pressing challenges facing congregations and communities, fostering creative, theologically informed solutions to contemporary needs.
