Tips for recording your video:

  1. Lighting – Sitting in too direct of sunlight will result in a washed out video, and sitting with the main lighting source behind you will create a silhouette. Artificial light, such as overhead lighting or fluorescent lighting, can create an unflattering effect. Try to sit somewhere with natural, indirect light coming from in front of you.
  2. Camera position – Film with your phone horizontal (in landscape). Try to make sure that you fill up most of the frame, and if you find that you’re too small in the frame move closer to your device. Having the camera below your eye line is unflattering, so try to position your device so that the camera sits at or above eye-level.
  3. Background – Find a spot in your home or office to sit in front of a pleasing background. Try to avoid clutter, and keep in mind that we may be using this footage in a video going out to more than the participants in the meeting. What would you like strangers to see in your home?
  4. Use headphones – Headphones and a microphone make calls sound so much better for everyone. Even an inexpensive pair helps. If you don’t have a microphone, still use headphones.
  5. Test your audio, mic, and video – Launch Zoom a minute or two before a call to check and test your equipment. In the desktop app, click your profile image > Settings > Audio. Choose the right input and output for your audio and mic. Test them. Then navigate to video and do the same for your camera.
