Rev. Laura Barclay (MDiv ’08), who currently serves as the Social Ministries Coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina, stood at the door of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Charlotte during the opening day of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, September 4 to welcome people inside to see the documentary “Gospel Without Borders.” The movie, a production of EthicsDaily.com, highlights the stories of illegal immigrants in five states: North Carolina, Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama and Iowa. The makers say the movie is meant to give Christians a way to understand immigration issues from the perspective of faith.
Barclay was the 2012 recipient of the Bill J. Leonard Distinguished Service Award Pro Fide Et Humanitate. The award is given in recognition of enactment of Wake Forest University’s motto Pro Humanitate and leadership for justice, reconciliation, and compassion in the church and community.
