The inaugural Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity Bowl was held at the Benton Convention Center Thursday, March 29. About 100 people watched the competition, which included three teams of nine students each. Students who participated currently attend Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, Appalachian State University and UNC-Greensboro, and are pursing degrees in medicine, nursing, public health, social work, divinity and other fields. Teams were challenged to create solutions to fictional health disparity situations. Three Third year Master of Divinity students participated in the competition: Ashley Cyre, Maria Jones, and Rodney Pilson. Ashley competed on “White Team,” which placed first; Maria competed on the “Gold Team,” which placed second; and Rodney competed on the “Black Team,” which placed third.
