This Week: October 14 – 18October 12, 2013
As the second half of the semester begins so does the season of pumpkins:
…pumpkin spice lattes
…pumpkin bagels (I just discovered these at the new Einstein’s Bagels on campus!)
…pumpkin pound cake
…and, yes, even pumpkin M&M’s.
USA Today reported on October 29 that pumpkin sales topped $290 million dollars in the U.S. last year. That number represents a lot of pumpkins. The arrival of pumpkins in grocery stores and farmers’ markets signals for me autumn, harvests, and All Hallows Eve. Pumpkins also signal the transition into the second half of the fall academic term and the announcement of spring courses (look for that announcement as early as next week).
Welcome back from Fall Break! I hope we are all ready to move into the remaining weeks of the semester with renewed energy. I, for one, will be toasting the start of those weeks with a pumpkin spice latte, perhaps accompanied by a freshly baked pumpkin pie. Got any good recipes to share?
