For Alan Sherouse (MDiv ’05), pastor of Metro Baptist Church in New York City, the social variance of hipsters sitting side by side with the homeless and the down-and-out share a pew with the up-and-coming is an everyday occurrence. These images serve as daily proof of an ever-shrinking world. But all too often, this sense of community can be fleeting, based on proximity rather than true connection, confined to the daily commute and ended immediately by passing through the doors of our destinations.
