Marty is the Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the University of Chicago. Long recognized as one of the foremost analysts of religion in America, Dr. Marty is also an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). He is the author of innumerable books including Righteous Empire, Pilgrims in their Own Land, Modern American Religion, and A Cry of Absence.
