Wilshire Baptist Church is a welcoming and affirming congregation of around 2,000 active members, affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and located in Dallas, Texas. The Pathways to Ministry Pastoral Residency began in 2003 with 29 alumni now serving churches in 17 states. The pastoral residency provides two years of practical ministry experience and hands-on learning in the local church. Two residents join the program each year, for a cohort of four each year. Each week the residents participate in worship planning, staff meeting, and resident seminars. Homiletics seminars are held every other week, alternating with ministry seminars covering topics such as worship, administration, finance, risk management, leadership and organizational change, family systems theory, ministerial professionalism, art and spirituality, to name a few. Residents preach an average of at least six times a year, teach Sunday School and Wednesday noon and night, and lead Vespers services.
