Born in Henderson County, North Carolina, Dr. Bridges completed her Bachelor's Degree at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, a Master's of Divinity and Ph.D. in New Testament Studies and Greek from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and most recently a Masters of Business Administration from the Babcock Graduate School of Management, Wake Forest University. Her current research interests are in areas related to the study of the Fourth Gospel and Celtic Christianity.  She has studied Literary Theory at Indiana University, Mandarin Chinese in Taipei, Taiwan, Higher Education at the Curry School of Education, University of Virginia, and Celtic Christianity in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.   She attended the Institute for Women Administrators in Higher Education at Bryn Mawr College.

Dr. Bridges has taught at Union Theological Seminary, Randolph-Macon College in Virginia, and Lexington Theological Seminary. From 1991 to 2001 she served as founding faculty member of the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, teaching New Testament, Greek, and Women’s Studies. During that time, she also served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Richmond.  Author of journal articles, book reviews, and essays, Dr. Bridges published The Church's Portraits of Jesus in 1997 and is currently awaiting publication of her commentary on  1-2 Thessalonians with Smyth and Helwys Publishers. 

Dr. Bridges, after completing six years as the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, is directing the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation Grant for Interdisciplinary Programs for the School of Divinity.  She is also teaching courses in Spirituality, Ministry, and Leading Change in Congregations.
