Description

Join the School of Divinity as Dr. William Schweiker, Director of the Martin Marty Center and Edward L. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor of Theological Ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School, delivers the Steelman Lecture and Opening Convocation address on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 4:00pm in Wait Chapel. The address is titled “Are Religious Convictions Bad for the Planet?.”

This year, the School of Divinity Opening Convocation is being held in conjunction with the annual Steelman Lectures, which were endowed in 1998 with a gift from Dr. Standford L. Steelman, a distinguished biochemist from Hickory, North Carolina, in honor of his wife Margaret A. Steelman. The endowment invites prominent lectures of Judeo-Christian theology to the divinity school each year. Lecturers in the past have included distinguished speakers Dr. Susan R. Garrett of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Dr. Marcus J. Borg, acclaimed author and theologian.
