12:00noon - 1:00pmLower AuditoriumDescription
The School of Divinity will observe Shrove Tuesday for Community Lunch this week.
Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day) is the day preceding Ash Wednesday. In some places it is also called Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras. It is a time for one last celebration before the beginning of Lent. Shrove is a form of shriven, meaning to be absolved or to confess. By about the 4th century CE, the Lenten observance had grown from days to weeks and was a time of fasting and penitence. All foodstuffs related to the fast had to be eaten and/or expunged from the home—sugar, fats, eggs, and so on (which is why pancakes are often associated with a Shrove Tuesday meal).
