The Christian Unity Committee of the North Carolina Council of Churches is proud to announce this year’s Conference on the Common Good on the topic “Church-State Relations.” Our keynote presenter for the discussion is Dr. Bill J. Leonard, Professor of Church History and the James and Marilyn Dunn Chair of Baptist Studies at the Wake Forest Divinity School. As has been our custom in the past for this conference, we will move to small group discussions following the address from our keynote speaker.
The conference will be held on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem on Monday, February 18. The cost for attending will be $20 for the general public and $5 for students. The conference will be held in the Lower Auditorium of Wingate Hall. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and our program begins at 11 a.m. with a devotion led by the Rev. Lawrence Womack, Rector of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. Lunch for all registered participants will be served in the auditorium. (Lunch consists of a potato buffet including a baked potato with stuffing choices which include grilled chicken, sour cream, butter, chives, and a desert and drink.) A special parking provision has been arranged on the Campus of WFU in Lot Q, which is the large lot directly in front of Wingate Hall and the Chapel. To get there, take the Interstate Business 40 to the Cherry Street exit; follow Cherry Street, which becomes University Parkway; take the Polo Road exit. Turn left on Polo Road and go to the Polo Road entrance to WFU. Go to the first stop sign; turn right and enter the Lot Q.
